EXTENSION
ABE faculty and graduate students are involved in a variety of projects at IFAS Research and Education Centers across the state. Current extension activities can be found at the websites below:
  • Climate Extension & Applied Research Program

The Climate Extension and Applied Research Program provides climate information and climate-based products to stakeholders in agriculture, forestry, and water resources management. Research is aimed at reducing climate and weather risks in agriculture and natural resources in Florida and cooperates with similar programs in the States of Alabama and Georgia, under the Southeast Climate Consortium.

  • Citrus BMP's

The Florida Watershed Restoration Act (FWRA) requires that total maximum daily loads (TMDLs) be developed for all pollution sources "agricultural and urban" to ensure water quality standards are achieved. BMP measures are not regulatory or enforcement-based, they are strictly voluntary. As part of the BMP implementation, growers perform an environmental assessment of their operations.

  • Hydrology and Water Quality

These programs make available information about water-use practices related to agriculture, such as irrigation and water conservation, that will improve the compatibility of agriculture with the natural ecosystem and the expanding urban population in south Florida.

  • Irrigation Research

As urban areas grow throughout the country, limited water resources will be stretched to fulfill urban, agricultural, and other needs. This project studies irrigation habits in Florida. IFAS Virtual Field Day View videos and interactive media related to current irrigation research.

  • Safety

This site is designed to provide educational information for making the agricultural workplace safer and healthier and also contains materials relevant for disasters and emergency situations.

  • Water Conservation

This program promotes water conservation through increasing efficiency, reducing consumption, and maintaining adequate and sustainable supplies.

  • Water Resource Engineering

The purpose of this program is to conduct Research and Extension activities that focus on hydrology and water quality of the southern Everglades and the farmlands of Miami-Dade County.

  • IFAS Solutions for your Life

The Solutions for your life website provides information 24/7 on a wide variety of topics including agriculture, the environment, families and consumers, disaster preparedness, lawns & gardens and more. Search the EDIS publication database for information on a wide variety of topics.
